Child and Family Services
Center for Women in Transition provides support to children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence. The goals of the Child and Family Services program include helping children identify and develop their skills and abilities for dealing with the effects of family violence and finding hope for a future free from the cycle of abuse. Through counseling, family members learn to stand together and support each other as they face problems related to domestic violence. The program provides trauma-focused assessment and therapeutic interventions designed to minimize negative trauma reactions in children. Individual, family, and group services are provided in a safe, confidential, and welcoming environment.

Domestic Violence Advocacy
Domestic violence advocates are available to meet with survivors to provide domestic violence education and emotional support. The goal of Domestic Violence Advocacy is to empower survivors by connecting them to the tools they need to move forward, towards a life free of abuse. Advocates can provide survivors with assistance in developing a safety plan, as well as a collaborative plan for meeting longer-term goals and objectives regarding financial independence, self-esteem and assertiveness.

Sexual Assault Therapy
Therapeutic services are available to any teen or adult survivor of sexual assault, regardless of the age at which the assault occurred. Individual therapy provides survivors with a safe and supportive environment that allows them to explore their thoughts and feelings about their experience of sexual assault. Individual counseling is also available to provide family members and non-offending partners of survivors with support as they learn how to best support the survivor.

Support Groups

Center for Women in Transition offers a variety of support groups for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Groups are held weekly and typically run in six- to eight-week cycles.

Domestic Violence Educational and Support Groups
These groups provide education and support for survivors of domestic violence who wish to learn about power and control, recognizing traits of an abusive personality, understanding what keeps people in an abusive relationship, and how children of all ages are impacted by domestic violence.

Adult and Teen Sexual Assault Support Groups
Offered throughout the year, these support groups are based upon demand. They provide sexual assault survivors with an opportunity to explore their feelings and learn healthy coping skills in a safe and supportive group environment.

Self-Empowerment Groups
Survivors to explore healthy ways to address their emotional concerns and needs through topics such as building self-esteem, stress management, creating healthy boundaries and learning effective ways to assert ourselves in order to maintain healthy relationships.

Children’s Groups
These groups are offered to children between the ages of 5 and 14 who have experienced domestic violence in their homes. Children’s groups run in conjunction with the adult groups and allow children to process their experiences through age-appropriate activities.
