Center for Women in Transition
For over 30 years, Center for Women in Transition has been providing assistance and opening doors for women and children as they deal with the significant challenges resulting from domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life-changing situations.
History
Center for Women in Transition began as an initiative of the Grand Haven Jaycees Women. Their community assessment found a significant need to help women abused by their spouses and those “displaced” from their traditional homemaker roles. Since August 1977 the Center has helped women deal with significant life changes. The longevity and growth of the agency reflects not only the need for services but the desire of the community to address those needs.
In 1979 the agency began providing client services for “Hospitality House” a shelter funded by the Holland Deacon’s Conference of the Christian Reformed Church. Later the Center began operating an emergency shelter in Holland and transitional housing in Grand Haven due to the generosity of the Presbyterian Church.
During the 1990’s the Center added services and focused on children and multi-cultural services, legal advocacy and transitional housing. By 2002 the agency had completed a capital campaign and moved to the new program center at 411 Butternut in Holland and doubled the capacity of the safe shelter. In the new location programs were added to include the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program, Child Therapy, Girls on the Run/Girls on Track, and DELTA.
Community leaders, corporate leaders, businesses, supporters and volunteers from all walks of life have contributed to the growth, stability and success of Center for Women in Transition. June 5 of 2008 Charisse Mitchell became the seventh Executive Director of the agency to remain constant to the dedication to empower women as they face choices at transitional points in their lives.
Every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.

Durante más de 30 años, el Centro para Mujeres en Transición ha estado proviendo asistencia y ha abierto las puertas a mujeres y niños que enfrentan difíciles desafíos derivados de la violencia doméstica, asalto sexual, y otras situaciones de cambio de vida.
Historia
El Centro para Mujeres en Transición empezó como una iniciativa de las mujeres Jaycess en Grand Haven. Una evaluación comunitaria encontró una importante necesidad para ayudar a las mujeres maltratadas por sus parejas al igual que a las "desplazadas" de sus funciones tradicionales como amas de casa. Desde agosto de 1977, el Centro ha ayudado a las mujeres a hacer frente a importantes cambios de vida. La longevidad y el crecimiento de la agencia refleja no sólo la necesidad de servicios, sino el deseo de la comunidad para hacer frente a esas necesidades.
En 1979, la agencia empezó a prestar servicios a los clientes de "Casa de Hospitalidad" un refugio financiado por la Conferencia de Diáconos de la Iglesia Cristiana Reformada en Holland. Más tarde, debido a la generosidad de la Iglesia Presbiteriana el Centro empezó a operar un albergue de emergencia en Holland y vivienda transicional en Grand Haven.
Durante la década de 1990 el Centro agrego servicios para niños, multi-culturales, accesoria legal y vivienda transicional. En 2002 la agencia recaudo fondos en una campaña capital y se trasladó al nuevo centro del programa en el 411 Butternut en Holland y se duplicó la capacidad del refugio. En la nueva ubicación se agregaron programas que incluyen el Asalto Sexual Programa de Enfermera -SANE, Terapia para Niños, Jovencitas en la Carrera/Jovencitas en la Pista, y DELTA.
Lideres comunitarios, líderes corporativos, empresas, colaboradores y voluntarios de todos los estilos de vida han contribuido al crecimiento, la estabilidad y el éxito del Centro para Mujeres en Transición. El 5 de junio de 2008, Charisse Mitchell se convirtió en la séptima directora ejecutiva de la agencia para permanecer constante a la dedicación de empoderar la autonomía de la mujer mientras que se enfrentan a opciones en los puntos de transición en sus vidas.
